Not bad, but quite tedious.
I loved Until Dawn from the first moment I read about it's impending release from a Game Informer magazine and it did not disappoint when I finally got to play it. It gave me my very first platinum trophy. So naturally, I loved the idea of the Dark Pictures Anthology and eagerly purchased Man of Medan upon release, but while I found the acting to be quite good, the gameplay and overall story was quite disappointing. This has become a trend for this series, as I actually had to force myself to finish Little Hope over a span of a year or so just so I could finally sell it and be done. The UI improvements such as the indicators for which actions will move the story along so you don't accidentally miss a collectable by progressing unknowingly were very appreciated, but it wasn't enough to make up for the implausible story, mind-numbingly slow progression, and unlikable characters. The production value is great, don't get me wrong, it is visually stellar, but I don't want to participate in the world's most bland "horror" movie at a snail's pace when I purchase a $40 USD video game. With that said, I stuck with it and earned the platinum like the previous game, and I will very likely do the same with House of Ashes when the price is more reflective of what I have come to expect the game's actual value should be based on the previous two entries, maybe about $12 net cost after reselling upon completion. I at least look forward to the 'first' playthrough of House of Ashes though, if for no other reason than I hate to leave a series incomplete.
